Assess the needs of the patient and provide effective and efficient physical therapy treatment to our patients and their respective physical impairments with objective outcome measures that are delivered in an ethical and educational environment
Successful, cost-effective, quality care for our patients’ needs starts with a thorough examination and assessment. The examination process involves constant communication of both the patient and therapist interacting in a subjective interview consisting of a question/answer and explanation period. The interview is followed by objective testing consisting of visual inspection, active/passive movements, joint integrity, neurological involvement, and necessary tests inspired by the culmination of information processed from the subjective interview.
When the examination is competed, the information is integrated to determine an overall assessment of the patient and his/her presenting problem. A physical therapy diagnosis is determined; impairments are identified along with functional limitations and/or disabilities so a plan of care can developed. It is at this time the therapist determines if the presenting problem of the patient is appropriate for physical therapy or referral back to the doctor and/or a specialist is indicated.
The next step in the clinical decision-making process is to establish goals of treatment and the actual treatment program. Identification of short term goals reflects outcomes such as but not limited to: increasing range of motion, stability, endurance, strength, and/or balance. Long term goals reflect how treatment will affect the functional limitations and/or disability the patient has been experiencing such as but not limited to: standing, walking, lifting, sports, and/or sustained repetitive activity.
Establishing a plan of care determines what therapeutic approaches will appropriately meet the long and short term goals of the patient. The approaches of treatment for the plan of care we emphasize at Holly Springs Physical Therapy include, but are not limited to: manual therapy, therapeutic exercises, neuromuscular re-education, gait training, and a variety of modalities. The considerations of any possible alternate services for treatment are also made at this time.
Implementation of the plan using appropriate procedures and techniques that will meet the goals is performed during the anticipated visits to Holly Springs Physical Therapy. The implementation of the plan involves the patient (and/or caregiver) in the management of their condition in a home exercise program as well as adaptation or modification of the home, work, or recreational environment to help minimize or eliminate factors contributing to patients’ presenting problems.
Frequently evaluating and reassessing the effectiveness of the procedures and techniques of the treatment and thus modifying them or the treatment plan whenever indicated, is the last key principle to a successful outcome at Holly Springs Physical Therapy.
